Your Car Was Broken Into. Now What?

Nothing can feel quite as violating as going out to your car and seeing one of your windows smashed in and some of your things gone. Whether it was your front windshield that was damaged or one of your side windows, you may wonder how you'll ever get your car restored and stop feeling like you've been robbed.

Call Your Insurance Agency

The first thing that you should do if you see that you have been robbed is call your insurance to file a claim. Once you have a claim, this will help get the whole process moving along and you can hopefully get compensated for things like your windshield replacement and any items that were stolen out of your car. Your insurance agency may ask you to take photographs of your car to make sure that everything is fully documented and send it to them. Then, after a couple of days, they can hopefully get everything processed so that you can get things taken care of.

Clean out Your Car

The next thing you will want to do is get rid of all of the broken glass and damage in your car so that you can actually drive around. When removing the glass shards from the window, make sure that you are wearing gloves so that you don't get cut. Vacuum up any extra glass that's all over your seats or the floor of your car with a shop vac so that nothing gets clogged or broken. If you don't have a shop vac, then consider waiting to have the windshield company clean it up so that you don't ruin your vacuum.

Call a Windshield Replacement Company

Once everything is cleaned up, it's time to get your windshield or side window replaced. The great thing about a lot of windshield replacement companies is that they are mobile which means that they will come to you to fix it. All you have to do is make sure that you process your claim through your insurance beforehand so that you don't have to pay for it out of pocket, and then tell them what kind of car you have so that they can custom order the window for you.

The silver lining about having your car broken into is that things can be repaired and replaced before you know it. To learn more about windshield replacement, reach out to a company near you.
